Where is your mindset? Abundance vs. Scarcity

I am continually inspired by the bounty that is available to each of us. Think about it. We live, most of us on this list, in the United States of America, the land of abundance. We are rich with opportunities, food, wealth, you name it. So, why is it that we still have a mindset of scarcity? This is my word for the year.

In the fitness industry, there are millions, if not billions, of trainers, classes and workshops. Education courses, certifications and variations of equipment. For Pilates in particular the virtual stage has exploded due to the pandemic. It leaves many of us asking the question, “Is there enough room for me?” YES. There is room for all of us. Just look at paper towels, hand, soap or even juice for that matter. How many options are there? And there is always another one ready to pop up. In Pilates, one instructor may be your favorite, while another may not cue certain exercises in a way they resonate with you. You may have to find the right fit for you when it comes to a studio or the classes you like. For this reason, there IS enough room for all of us.

Why am I talking about abundance? Over the course of the pandemic, I have worked with many other Pilates professionals on shifting our views on marketing, education, pay scales, virtual classes, etc. What we have found to be a universal truth, no matter what area you work in, is that if you believe there is not enough space for you, not enough work or no one will see what you do, then there won't be! IT'S TRUE! Put it out into the universe and see what happens. I have truly seen the benefits of this.

I'll share a story with you…

At the end of 2020, let's say around October, I was really starting to feel the effects of the pandemic when it came to my business. No one was booking workshops from me, barely anyone was signing up for online classes like they were earlier in the year. I was really bummed out. I loved seeing the faces of my students and their kids and pets. What had happened? Why aren't they taking my classes? So, I started to do a little work on my mindset. Talking to my business coach, she asked me where I was with it (she's REALLY good at calling me out on my “stuff”). And she was right. I was stuck in a rut because of my mindset. I was worrying too much about there being so many other people out there and not being enough for us. I started to shift and wouldn't ya know…it worked. I know it worked because I am now starting to meet so many more new people and sharing what I do with them.

I challenge each of you to pick a word for this year and work toward it. Keep it in your mind. Put it out into the universe and see what happens.

Thank you for sticking this journey out with me and for trusting me to be your Pilates resource.
